Northeast harbor's Fleet dock (shown above) is just a short walk from High
Vista. Northeast Harbor attracts a wonderful armada of pleasure craft and working fleet of lobster boats
that complete its downeast Maine charm.
NE harbor
provides a full suite of boating services sought after by yachtsman making
it as convenient as it it scenic. As the most protected harbor
on MDI, Northeast Harbor is the refuge of
choice when rough weather threatens.
The many charms of quiet Northeast Harbor make it a favorite playground for the rich and famous. Don't be surprised if you see a famous titan of industry like L.L Bean or Martha Stuart in laid back vacation garb ahead of you at the local grocery counter. High Vista is just a few minutes drive from world famous Acadia, one of the country's most visited national parks. The park encompasses 35,000 acres of beautiful seacoast, rocks, islands, forest, lakes and mountains. The diverse geological features of Mount Desert Island fashion a cornucopia of spectacular natural beauty. Unlike the grand spacious national parks of the west, Acadia's concentrated glacial formations rise up out of the ocean, gracing this small island with a plethora of scenic wonders that reveal themselves at each bend of the road and trail. Acadia's Park Loop Road is the region's most scenic drive with numerous points of interest that make it the undisputed "center piece" MDI attraction. Mount Desert Island's mountains, ocean, and lakes support a wide range of recreational activities including hiking, mountain climbing, sightseeing, swimming, boating, fishing, water sports, biking, horseback riding, dining, bird watching, and more. The carriage roads, themselves a work of wonder and stonework, along with numerous well marked hiking trails, present an astonishing variety of scenic natural beauty. Despite its relatively small size, the list of attractions and activities of MDI seem a bit like the Eveready Bunny; they just keep going, and going, and going...
